Question of Personal and National Defense

On July 27, 2005, NY's Chautauqua County Legislature passed a law to post signs on all county buildings banning anyone from bringing weapons into them. This includes handguns licensed to law-abiding citizens for concealed carry.

Why do those charged with representing and serving the citizenry continue to promote the absurd notion that taking guns away from the law-abiding creates safety? Especially when the exact opposite is the fact!?

Terrorism occurs WITHIN our own nation, our community, AND even our occupied buildings. Contrary to what big-government proponents and the mass-media would have us believe, the government can NOT protect us from such terror. And "The cold, harsh legal facts are that by statute and court decree, local and state governments and 'their agents', the police, have no obligation to provide protection for the individual". (Footnote1)

After a six year court battle, a June 2005 U.S. Supreme Court decision ruled that police have no duty to enforce restraining orders, making the tool that anti-gun groups claim will protect individuals from domestic violence even less of a deterrent. Restraining orders remain an important tool for those being abused, threatened, harassed or stalked. Still, relying solely on a slip of paper or the local police department for protection can be a deadly move. (Footnote2)

I pose two revealing questions:
1) Are the dangerously insane and terrorists physically prevented from entering our premises? (Whether it be our home, school, church, shopping mall, or federal buildings such as post offices and even federal courthouses?) Absolutely not! And they strike terror AFTER entering our borders, our buildings, and even our bedrooms!
2) How are the innocent protected from becoming victimized and terrorized? By preparing to defend! (Even many a mother or grandmother has changed her idea of defense when she considers an attack upon her (grand)child!)

Stealing the right of self-defense from the law-abiding is what breeds and causes great tragedies such as school, church, and federal office building massacres! (And remember, firearms are certainly not the only tool of such terror, but firearms ARE the primary focus of the control fanatics. Take away guns, and criminals will STILL wreak terror upon the defenseless until the CRIMINALS are taken away!)

It's appalling that the mass-media continually hides details of when an armed citizen halts tragedy and often even prevents it from occurring. How many innocent victims would still be alive today if responsible parents, teachers, pilots, and plain citizens were permitted to carry the ultimate self-defense implement?

Firearms will NEVER be eradicated from criminals OR tyrannical governments. However, fostering AND equipping an armed populace is the ONLY guarantee to freedom (whether it be state-wide or personal)! The founders of our American Bill of Rights clearly knew this and appropriately wrote the Second Amendment as the ultimate guarantee to our inalienable rights (second only to the Right to speak freely AND to worship freely). And the first ten amendments, also known as the Bill of Rights, are to protect citizen's 'rights' from a government mis-using its power through oppression!

When criminals and terrorists have weapons of destruction, it is usually only a gun in the hand of a responsible person that will stop the terror. Even the official view by police and the military is that their on- and off-duty handguns are strictly 'defensive' arms. (Rifles and shotguns are considered 'offensive' implements.) Therefore, it becomes obviously clear that handguns are usually the best defense of the law-abiding. If they weren't, virtually all police wouldn't be carrying them!

The 'antis' who believe that an armed populous is dangerous should study the homeland of at least 13 of my paternal ancestors... "Although there is more per capita firepower in Switzerland than any place in the world, it is one of the safest places to be. ('assault' rifles and/or semi-automatic pistols with sufficient ammunition are to be kept in the homes of all males aged 20 to 42) To the delight of Americans who support the right to keep and bear arms, Switzerland is the proof in the pudding of the argument that guns don't cause crime." (In fact, national shooting contests include 12-16 year olds firing the Assault Rifle 90, the Swiss service rifle, and in 2004, a cute, petite 13-year old blonde with braces became the Schutzenkonigin - the Shooting Queen) Back in America, "After the Great War, the Congress, after hearing laudations about Swiss shooting skills, enacted the Civilian Marksmanship Program, which continues to this day..."

"In 1943, Adolf Hitler proclaimed that "all the rubbish of small nations existing in Europe must be liquidated". In his diaries Josef Goebbels described Switzerland as "this stinking little state." Yet, as the Nazi tide spread across Europe from the Pyrenees to the Volga, one nation stood free, albeit armed to the teeth — its flag unbowed in a sea of twisted crosses."

A 'Gun Free Zone' is NOT a 'Citizen Safe Zone'...
A 'Gun Free Zone' is ONLY a 'Criminal Safe Zone'

as there we'll be no one equipped to stop the insane and/or terrorist!

Article XII, Section 1 of New York's Constitution covers both the "organized" and "unorganized" militia and reads:

The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.

Article 2, Section 4 of the New York Civil Rights Law also reads almost identical to the Federal Second Amendment:

Right to keep and bear arms. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed.

First, Second, Third, and Fourth Amendments to the United States Constitution:

  1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

  2. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

  3. No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

  4. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
